I'm always surprised how much afraid most people seem to be when you mention 'self-reflection' as a must-do activity / requirement / investment to live a good life. And yet, many people will easily praise agency / control of oneself / even freedom as top priorities 🤷♂️
I do agree that 'family' helps tremendously on that journey. Even tho I got my kids way later (already 30 y/o) I did met my wife when we were 17, and that relationship alone made me understand myself / grow 10x better.
