Thank you Kyle. It’s a very first principles work you just published here.

I am an atheist but I strongly approve this message and thank you for writing us. Inspiration for ideas and beliefs can come from many sources but right and wrong, good and bad, are easy to recognize for all of us.

I appreciate your compassion towards the homeless, but those people are right to prioritize the safety of their family first and foremost. Have you ever taken a walk after sunset in the Pioneer park area? You will see people with needles in their arms, people having sex, dangerous people who follow you and harass you. You would have those people bring that group into their own neighborhoods? Foolish. We are not in the times of Jesus when the destitute was caused by injury or deformity. Most homelessness is in connection to drugs and other criminal behavior. This is not you asking for people to accept the poor and needy, you are asking them to accept the criminal and insane. And just as you imply those homeowners are responsible when a homeless dies, you would also be responsible when a homeless commits a crime, commits a burgarly, commits a rape, commits a murder.

We have a centralized location downtown for them to congregate in. If we have to accept their behavior, there is no harm in keeping it contained in our business district. Not next to people's homes.

Kyle - I understand your frustration, but here is the thing, why are we always expecting the government to do this work of love for us? The government represents the people and it is very unreasonable to expect all people to put up with all the issues that come with homeless people. The government cannot "love" people. And why do you not make the attempt to understand the neighborhood NIMBY attitude? I have worked with homeless many times over the years and the community's concern about drugs, theft and trash are justified. Many/most of the homeless I have run across have severe drug/alcohol addiction or mental health issues. If you want to help and think the attitude of the NIMBY folks is wrong, invite a few of these homeless individuals into your home and link up with like minded individuals that are willing to do the same. You will find that many of these homeless individuals come with a lot of baggage. Working with them can be very rewarding but also very frustrating and at times you get taken. Luke 9:23-26. Keep the faith.

Nope. This is wrong and precisely the point. This isn’t about prosecuting the entire issue of solving homelessness. This is making sure people have a temporary place to go when it gets life-threateningly cold. Your perspective needs self-reflection.
